Iolanda Balas was a Romanian athlete who dominated the women’s high jump in the 1950s and 1960s. She won two Olympic gold medals (1960, 1964) and set 14 world records during her career, with her best jump being 1.91 meters. Balas was known for her unique “scissors” technique and remained undefeated in 150 consecutive competitions from 1957 to 1967.
