Kathrine Switzer is an American marathon runner who became the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967. Her participation in the race, despite attempts to stop her, became a symbol of the fight for women’s rights in sports. Switzer went on to have a successful running career and became a prominent advocate for women’s athletics. Her courage and determination helped pave the way for greater female participation in long-distance running and beyond.
